For one family, it was the end of years of suffering. For prisoners, it was a reminder that they had not been forgotten. For hospital patients trapped by unpaid medical bills, it was the moment they finally saw hope again.
These were the lives touched during a day of compassion led by the Vomerabandi Association as it carried out a series of humanitarian activities in Butihinda and Ngozi, extending Christ’s love to some of Burundi’s most vulnerable people.
The day began in Gisebeyi Village, Gisanze Zone, Butihinda Commune, where Vomerabandi officially handed over a newly built home to Kesiya Bangirinama, a widow raising four orphaned children. For years, she had lived without shelter, struggling every day simply to keep her children alive.
Standing before her new home, Kesiya could hardly hold back her emotions as she reflected on the painful journey that brought her there.
“I spent many sleepless nights after struggling all day just to find food. I would lay beside my children to protect them from stray dogs. Sometimes we slept outside because we had nowhere to stay. Seeing my children alive today is only by God’s grace. May Jesus bless you. Continue saving widows and orphans.”
Her testimony moved everyone present, reminding them that behind every house Vomerabandi builds is a family whose story has been transformed forever.
Local authorities praised the association for bringing lasting hope to vulnerable families. To further support widows in the community, Vomerabandi distributed food and clothing to 80 widows, ensuring that many households would return home with renewed hope and practical assistance.
The humanitarian mission continued hundreds of kilometers away at Ngozi Men’s Prison in Butanyerera Province. There, the association donated three tons of flour to benefit all inmates and provided clothing to 50 prisoners identified as the most vulnerable.
From the prison, the team proceeded to Ngozi Hospital, where they met patients who had recovered but remained hospitalized because they could not afford to pay their medical bills. Vomerabandi settled the bills of three patients, allowing them to return home to their families.
One of them, Ernest Ndereyimana, expressed his gratitude.
“We had no money to pay our hospital bills. May God bless you for coming to help us. On behalf of all the patients, we are deeply grateful.”
His words reflected the relief shared by many families who often remain trapped in hospitals long after treatment simply because they lack the means to pay.
The appreciation was echoed by the hospital administration. The representative mentioned:
“If you have never visited the surgical ward, you cannot imagine the pain people endure there. Tears come to your eyes when you enter. Today, this support has brought great joy to both the hospital and the patients.”
The day concluded with another milestone as Vomerabandi officially opened its provincial office in Ngozi. The new office will strengthen the association’s presence in Butanyerera Province and make its services more accessible to vulnerable communities.
Reflecting on the day’s activities, Vomerabandi President Daniel Ntirandekura reaffirmed the association’s long-term vision.
“When we see the suffering of widows and people with disabilities, we are encouraged to do even more. We hope to build many more houses, establish hospitals, and build schools for vulnerable children so that many more lives can be transformed.” He said
As Vomerabandi continues to expand its ministry, it remains committed to standing beside widows, orphans, prisoners, patients, and every vulnerable person who longs for hope.
